The city of Gilbert is trying to get a feel from developers if there is interest from them to build a resort, hotel, or conference center within Gilbert Regional Park. The park consists of 272 acres currently under construction near Queen Creek and Higley Roads.
Last Wednesday, July 31, The town posted a Request For Qualifications. The Request briefly described that the town is seeking qualifications for a resort, hotel, conference center, complementary retail space, or a combination of these. The facility would be on approximately 10 acres within the Park. Developers have until September 4 to submit their qualifications. If there is enough interest, after the September 4 deadline, they could then put out a request for bids. After that, developers would submit detailed plans to the town.
The town already dedicated 47 acres to public/private partnerships. One of those partnerships includes The Strand @Gilbert. This will be a 25 acre water sports park anticipated to open in 2021.
The first phase of the park Is expected to open in late September and will include playground, splash pad, rest rooms, ramadas and parking. The second phase of part 1 will include Green space, event areas, pickleball, sand volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts.
A hotel resort facility within this park could be a great addition to the current plans. There is nothing like it in Gilbert at this time.
